During my postdoctoral research at ERI in Tokyo, I conducted attenuation experiments (cyclic uniaxial loading) on organic analog to mantle rock with Dr. Takei. We found that data taken at various T and grain size (and by other labs) could be scaled by the Maxwell frequency to obtain a master curve of attenuation, that is attributed to the "diffusionally accommodated grain boundary sliding" (pdf). Our continued collaboration involves attenuation in pre-deformed samples via dislocations.
